Relentless to Unstoppable | The Power of Dark Side

The body has limitations, the mind does not.  We focus so much on what happens for the neck down that we forget it all starts with here.  Everything starts from here. If you’re not mentally ready, your never really physically prepared.

Tim Grover’s Success Philosophy

Tim Grover is the personal trainer of most successful athletes such as former NBA stars Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.  His book, 《Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable》, shares his philosophy of success.

It is an extraordinary inspirational book and it is different from most of books from this category which usually inspire you with a mild tone.  The tone of Tim Grover is very strong.

If you don’t attend the training on time, just get the f**k out of here!

Michael Jordan, the famous NBA star of all time, is also strong.  One time during training, Michael noticed his teammate was absent.  Jordan then found out the teammate was stabilizing his injury in the lounge.  Jordan rushed into the lounge and shouted:

WTF, I just played a 48 minutes game last night and haven’t take a rest.  Why the f**k that you can take a rest.  Get the f**k back to train!

These people are so strong that they cannot tolerate weakness from anyone.  They are described as relentless and are called cleaners.  These individuals can achieve great things and succeed in any fields.

Cleaner’s Mentality

When you are cleaners:

#1. You keep pushing yourself harder when everyone else has had enough.

#1. When you’re in the Zone, you shut out everything and control the uncontrollable.

#1. You know exactly who you are.

#1. You have a dark side that refuses to be taught to be good.

#1. You’re not intimidated by pressure, you thrive on it.

#1. When everyone is hitting the “In Case of Emergency” button, they’re all looking for you.

#1. You don’t compete with anyone, you find your opponent’s weakness and you attack.

#1. You make decisions, not suggestions; you know the answer while everyone is still asking questions.

#1. You don’t have to love the work, but you’re addicted to the results.

#1. You’d rather be feared than liked.

#1. You trust very few people, and those you trust better never let you down.

#1. You don’t recognize failure; you know there’s more than one way to get what you want.

#1. You don’t celebrate your achievements because you always want more.

Each one is as important as one another, so they are all #1.

After analyzing the mentalities,  the summary are as follows:

Cleaners are goal driven.  Motivates, process and result compose a goal.  Let’s discuss in reverse order.

There is only one result for cleaners: mission completed.

In the process, cleaners have only their goals in minds.  They can sacrifice and  suffer in a large extend in order to achieve the results, no matter what variables thrown at them.  They have inhuman amounts of self-discipline, focus, patience, tolerance to pain, stress and failures.  They are miracle makers.

They can quit fast foods.  They can isolate them just for training.  They can consistently practise and train for one single skill for many years.  They spends years to improve their skills and ability so that they master the games.  They enter the Zone in. which no thinking and emotions are needed.  They are well-prepared.  They understand themselves.  They make decisions.  They save the game in the critical moments. Result is guaranteed every single time.

The motives and fuels of cleaners are the relentless craving of self-performance,  obsession of the results and the dark side.

Dark Side

A dark side is that side you refuses to be taught to be good.  Everyone has it.  Losers are manipulated by it, average individuals try to inhibit it while only the cleaners can control it and make the best use of it.  Dark side is a very powerful source of energy.

It is very difficult to control the dark side. Examples include anger, money, power, sex, and other tempting desires.  Every coin has two sides.  It all hinges on whether you can control it.

Tiger Woods (one of the best golfers), and Bill Clinton (former USA president) are two great examples of the ones using the power of dark side. The power of sex drives them to perform better.  Their performance, however, fade when their scandals are disclosed.  Dark side should only be kept in darkness.  Otherwise, it will lose its powers.

What Can We  Learn from Cleaners?

After understanding the mentality of cleaners, 3 ways are proposed to help us to achieve our goals in life.

Increasing motivation:

#1 :Set Big Goals

Big goals are tempting and motivate you to do more.  When you are highly motivated, it is impossible to do the impossible.

#2 :Make Use of the Power of Dark Side

Instead of inhibiting the dark side, why don’t we learn to control and use it.  For instance, if you are told that you are fat.  You can use the anger to help you lose weight.  Please noted that a controllable anger is calm and only be used when it is needed.  Uncontrollable anger, like rage, hatred, do more harm than good.

You can also make use of other dark side power such as the power of sex.  It is also mentioned in the book 《Think and Grow Rich》.  Sex drive is the most in-born powerful source that you can ever have.  If you learn to control and convert it.  It will help you with the most ambitious goals.

Other Mentality:

#3 :Mental Toughness Training

You can cultivate mental toughness via running, training, any actions beyond your comfort zone.  You can also try the training programme offered by Tim Grover’s book 《Jump Attack the Ultimate Program On How to Jump Higher and be More Explosive》.  It is a very strenuous programme that worth your money.  Initiating any uncomfortable moves is the beginning of your mental training journey.
